About the Breitowich Family website
I'm your cousin, Joan. My grandmother Anna was the youngest child of Herschel and Jachit. Like all the Judy's in the family, I am named for Jachit. I've always been so grateful to be part of this big, loving family. I have fond memories of Chanukah parties, picnics, and relatives smiling at me and exclaiming, "My how you've grown!"
As I've been doing research into our family's history, it became obvious that a website would be a good way for us to share information. Right now the website is far from complete, and has lots of room for growth. I've created a structure for us to share photographs, Breit Lites Newsletters, family trees, etc. I'll need your help to identify people in old photos and to collect information about your immediate family members. You can scan photos and send them to me by email, or you can send the photos by post, and I'll scan them. Use the form on the Contact page to send other information.
By adding a blog page, I hope we can also use this website to announce events and generally stay in touch with each other. Sign up below to receive family news and updates.
Please feel free to post on the BLOG page, with your ideas, comments, and suggestions.
About Password Protection
To protect everyone's privacy, I have used password protection on most of the pages. Dates of birth, mothers' maiden names, and other information should stay within our family and not be available to hackers. Just email me to receive the password.
Links to my research
In 2016, I updated and added to my Uncle Arthur Weinsteins books and published Feits and Breitowiches, from Galicia to Chicago. I sent copies to as many of my second cousins as possible, but if you would like a copy, you can see it at http://www.blurb.com/b/7171261-feits-and-breitowiches or you can contact me.
In July, 2017 I travelled with my sister Ruth and daughter Rosanna to Poland and Romania (where my father's parents were from). We visited the towns of Jablonka, where Herschel and Jachit lived, and Bukowsko, where my grandfather Paul as well as his sister Celia and aunt Fannie (who also married Breitowiches) lived. You can see the write-up of our trip, with photos and other information about the old country, here.
I'm currently working on more of our family history, especially the early years in Chicago. I may end up with a book some day, but in the meantime, this website can be a way for us to connect and have access to the old photographs, the Breit Lites family newsletters, and more.
